Welcome to HIST 1301 -- American History to 1876. I'm looking forward to working with each of you this term and hope to have a wonderful experience as we explore the many fascinating topics that make up our nation's history.

Since this is one of the courses that all students in Texas must take in order to receive a college degree, the state expects us to monitor student progress in this course. As a result, the first thing that you must do is to complete a brief pre-test over material that will be presented in this course. We do not expect you to know the answers to these questions at this time, but over the course of the semester, we will expect you to learn this material. At the end of the semester, you will be given a post-test, and your improvement score will be calculated. THIS PRE-TEST GRADE WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR COURSE GRADE, but it is required of all students. 

Please take the pre-test before you proceed in this course. To take the exam, click the "PRE-TEST" in the left menu bar under Week 1. You will have 15 minutes to complete this 25 question multiple choice exam.

The second task for you to complete this week is to introduce yourself to your classmates. Do this by clicking on "POST AN INTRODUCTION" in the left menu bar under Week 1. You may then post a few statements about yourself on the discussion thread. Among the things you may want to share would be your hometown, your major/minor, what other classes you have taken in college, and what your hobbies/interests are.
